No Summer Block Rates for United Power Customers

Many customers have contacted United Power wondering if we are adapting a “block rate” similar to Xcel Energy’s rate change that just went into effect. Generally United Power sets the rates once a year, and that rate is consistent throughout the entire year, including this summer. The rate you pay for a kwh is clearly outlined on your monthly statement, and it will be the rate you pay for all your power.  There will not be a surcharge for electric consumption over a certain amount of kwh.
Of course it is important to conserve electricity whenever possible, and through the warm summer evenings energy consumption tends to peak in United Power’s territory. Not only will your conservation efforts save your money, it will help us all reduce our reliance on more power plants. Summer cooling is United Power’s biggest energy load, so we need everyone to do all they can to reduce their energy use this summer. Here are a few simple tips:
·         Close blinds and curtains to keep out the summer heat.
·         Consider installing ceiling fans to keep air moving.
·         Grill food outside if possible so you don’t warm up the house by turning on your oven.
·         Turn up your thermostat – you’ll save 1-3% on your energy costs for every degree above 72 degrees
