News6/9/2010 Crews Discover Cause of Outages in Brighton East FarmsUnited Power crews were on site at the cooperative's Bromley Substation throughout the day trying to discover the cause of the recent outages that have primarily affected customers in the Brighton East Farms neighborhood. Service was interrupted last night for approximately two hours. While power was restored by just after 11:00 p.m., a cause was not determined last night. Crews meticulously checked all our electronic equipment at the substation, as well checking all the cabinets for anything that might be contributing to the outages. Apparently the outage was caused by rodents that got into a pad mounted underground switch gear assembly. Rodents, snakes and birds are frequent causes of problems on the system. This particular assembly did have items to deter the rodents, but during nesting and weather extremes animals will often defeat the deterrent. We will be switching out the barrier board in the switch gear and installing additional rodent protection in the cabinets associated with this feeder. The necessary equipment is being overnighted and installed by the end of the week. We anticipate this should help to curtail our interruption issues in Brighton East Farms.
