Major Service Improvement to Interrupt Power in the Canyon June 27, 2010

An extended outage in United Power's mountain territory is planned for Sunday, June 27, 2010 (essentially Saturday night through Sunday morning). Beginning at midnight, power to all mountain customers will be interrupted for a period of about four hours. We selected this time to have the least impact possible on your day-to-day activities.

The key feeder lines into the canyon are being replaced with more robust, reliable lines. This particular work is taking place at a junction where United Power and Xcel Energy’s facilities are interconnected. Consequently this job requires a great deal of coordination and compromise. A special crew, specializing in this particular job will be available at this date and time, and we are excited to be able to work cooperatively with our neighboring utility to make this essential upgrade.

In 2008 and into 2009, our mountain territory experienced some troublesome outages, and we’re proud of the major improvements we’ve made in service to this area. This major upgrade is just one more way were building our system up to be more reliable not only today but in the future.

If you or someone in your home depends on essential medical equipment please make arrangements to make certain your needs are met during this power interruption. While we try to make all improvements within the time we’ve scheduled, there can be unforeseen circumstances that affect our ability to complete the work within the allotted time. If you or someone in your household depends on medical equipment you should always have a contingency plan in case of an outage. Talk to your medical services provider to help you develop an emergency plan.
