Vehicle Accident Causes Outage at 144th & HWY 85

Electric service was interrupted for United Power members on Monday evening when a vehicle hit a utility pole located at 144th and HWY 85. The vehicle accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. and resulted in a downed power pole and damaged electrical lines.

United Power crews were dispatched immediately to begin restoring power. Power was re-routed and restored to a majority of customers by 5:15 p.m. while repairs were made to the damaged pole and electrical lines. An equipment failure caused power to go out a second time and crews were able to fully restore power at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Crews worked into the evening to erect a new utility pole and get the electric lines off of the ground.  Final repairs to the damaged equipment will be completed today.

United Power members are reminded that power lines carry high voltage electricity and can be deadly. If you happen to be in a vehicle and wires have fallen on or near it, stay in your vehicle and tell others not to touch the wires or the vehicle. Anyone on the ground who touches your vehicle could be in danger. If the vehicle is safe and is not on fire, stay in the vehicle until an emergency responder indicates it is safe to get out.

Immediately report any fallen, low hanging, or smoking wires to United Power, the police, or fire department. United Power has dispatchers and line workers who are prepared and available 24 hours a day to help you.
