News5/24/2010 United Power CEO Robert Broderick Announces Intent to Retire at the End of 2010
Robert Broderick, CEO of United Power, recently announced his intention to retire at the end of 2010. Broderick joined United Power in 1997, leaving his position as Executive Vice President at Dakota Electric, a large cooperative headquartered in Farmington, Minnesota. Broderick helped direct the cooperative during the disbanding of many of the cooperative’s subsidiary efforts, and through the massive growth periods of the 2003 – 2008. Broderick has a bachelor's degree in electrical and electronic engineering from North Dakota State University.
When Broderick joined United Power, the cooperative’s revenues were only $36.4 million, and we served about 30,500 meters. Under his guidance the cooperative revenues have grown to more than $126.7 million, and the number of meters served has more than doubled to 66,368 at the end of 2009. He has served on many boards throughout his tenure at United Power, including Adams County Economic Development, Greater Brighton Economic Development and the Brighton Charter Schools. In his retirement Broderick is planning to return to the Minnesota area, where he has a growing, extended family.
“Bob Broderick helped to manage United Power through some of the most challenging growth periods in the cooperative’s history,” stated Dave Dunnell, Board President. “His foresight and expertise were essential to the operation over the past decade. As a board we value and appreciate his service.”
The position of CEO/ General Manager is a position that is selected by the United Power board of directors. The board will use the time prior to Broderick’s retirement to develop and implement a procedure to plan for his succession. No decision has been made yet regarding the use of any search firms, or what potential pool of candidates the board will be considering. However, the goal is to have a new CEO in place when Broderick retires.
