Time-of-Day RateMembers with all-electric homes or those who use baseboard electric heat can save money by switching to United Power's Time-of-Day Rate. The rate has also helped customers who use wood to heat their homes reduce their wood usage by two-thirds without increasing their electric bills. During the course of everyday, there is a period of time referred to as the peak. This is the time of day when electric usage is at its highest. Our highest usage times - from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. - are driven by businesses and manufacturing plants, and the needs of individuals as they settle into an evening at home. After 9 p.m., our customers' demand for electricity begins to drop. United Power offers substantial savings as an incentive to customers willing to shift their electric use from the peak daytime hours into the lower demand evening hours.
On-Peak Hours: 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. Customers on the United Power Time-of-Day Rate pay nearly 2/3 less for their off-peak electric usage and pay approximately 1/3 more for the electricity they use on-peak. Compare the cost of natural gas, propane, and standard electric to our Time-of-Day rates. For customers to take advantage of the Time-of-Day Rate, United Power must install a special Time-of-Day meter to accurately record the on-peak and off-peak usage.Customers on our Time-of-Day rate can also benefit from Electric Thermal Storage (ETS).
