Meter Disconnects
United Power will help coordinate service disconnects for members performing tree trimming, home renovation projects, system upgrades, or any other work that requires temporary interruptions. Please contact the cooperative to schedule service disconnects at your home or business prior to work being conducted.
Contact a member services representative with any questions about service disconnects at 303-637-1300.
Members and member-hired electricians or contractors are not authorized to tamper, disconnect, or otherwise bypass United Power meters.
Service Disconnect Requests
Temporary Disconnect Request
Members who are conducting work around their home, such as tree trimming around secondary power lines or conducting electrical wiring upgrades within their home must request a temporary service disconnect by contacting United Power.
Request a non-emergency disconnect:
- Contact Member Services
303-637-1300
(M-F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) - Provide at least 48 hours notice
Home Electrical Upgrades
If members are requesting a meter relocate or panel upgrade, a new construction application must be submitted.
United Power's system design team will reach out within 2-3 business days.
Only United Power personnel may conduct work on cooperative meters. Electricians may not access meter housings or tamper with cooperative meters. Tampering may results in fines, fees, and/or costs for replacing damaged equipment.
Solar & Net Metering
Members who are installing solar systems at their home or business must complete an interconnection agreement and agree to the net metering terms and conditions.
United Power will add a "production meter" to track your system's production and connect it to the cooperative's distribution system.
Solar contractors and electricians may NOT access the meter housing or tamper with cooperative meters.
Meter Tampering
Tampering with an electric meter is dangerous and puts United Power employees and members at great risk. Tampering, moving, or bypassing a meter could result in electrocution, serious injury, property damage, or fires. Meter tampering is also a criminal offense in Colorado.
- NEVER break a meter seal
- NEVER open or move a meter base
- NEVER remove a meter
- NEVER bypass a United Power meter through any means
Bottom Line: Do not touch your United Power meter. Leave adjustments to the cooperative.
Any tampering with United Power meters by members or electricians may result in criminal charges and/or meter tampering fees, as well as labor and materials costs for replacing damaged equipment.
