The 2 megawatt Hangar 160 Solar Field is energized just south of Highway 7 on Colorado Blvd. It is the largest cooperative-owned utility-scale system tied directly to the local distribution grid.

United Power hosts 5th Energy Expo — a public event for members with energy-saving workshops and information.

United Power installs a wind generation demonstration project near the Gilpin County Recreation Center in partnership with Gilpin County and the Colorado State University Extension Office. The project studied the feasibility of wind in the region using a 2.1 kW Skystream generator. The study ends in January of 2014. The turbine produced 4,411 kWhs during the four years.

United Power energizes Sol Partners, the nation’s first cooperative solar farm. Members can lease a panel located on the cooperative’s property and benefit from the solar output as monthly bill credits. After quickly selling out the first phase, United Power opens Phase II of Sol Partners to members in 2010.

A spring snowstorm drops 55 inches of snow over United Power’s Mountain territory. Wet, heavy snow falls for two days, leaving behind up to 12 inches of ice on lines, toppling trees into powerlines, and affecting service for up to 3,000 members.

United Power tests first Cycled Air program providing an incentive to members for aiding in the reduction of peak power usage through controlled air conditioning usage.

United Power offers its first renewable energy incentives on solar electric and solar hot water installations to help offset some of the initial equipment costs for members.
