Be Scam Smart United Power members occasionally receive phone calls or door-to-door visits from individuals claiming to be representatives of the cooperative and demanding payment for past-due account balances. In an effort to protect our members, we're providing the following information to warn you of the potential for utility scams. Defend Yourself from Scams: Your best defense against scams is to keep up on the status of your account and use official United Power channels like our website, mobile app, or phone number to contact the cooperative. To be sure of the status of your electric account, reference your monthly statement, login to your online account through our website or the United Power mobile app, or call United Power’s Member Services Department at 303-637-1300. Use any of our convenient payment options rather than third-party payment processors to ensure a secure and immediate payment is posted to your account. If you are ever in doubt about a potential scam call or in-person visit, call United Power at 303-637-1300. How to be sure you are doing business with United Power:- United Power does not collect utility payments at member homes or businesses. We may occasionally need access to electric equipment on your property, but we will never visit in person to collect payment. Never give money to people who may be posing as utility workers. If you are not sure about an employee’s identification, ask the employee for identification, or call United Power at 303-637-1300.
- United Power never calls members in person to threaten disconnection. Our representatives may call you in person to discuss past-due balances and offer resources to assist you, but our representatives will never collect credit card or banking information over the phone. Notices of delinquency or disconnection are sent by mail and then United Power will follow-up with our automated phone system. A recorded phone message will instruct you to initiate payment over the phone, online, or through the United Power mobile app.
- United Power will never demand immediate payment with prepaid debit cards (MoneyPak or GreenDot cards). United Power offers several payment options that allow you to pay with cash, card, or checking account. You can pay through our automated phone system, online through your United Power account, or through the United Power mobile app. Demanding immediate payment with a pre-paid card is a very common phone scam and is a red flag that you are not speaking to a United Power representative.
- Caller ID will indicate that the call is from United Power. Our employees may occasionally call you to follow up on account status, inform you of work being done in your area, or return your call. If you are ever unsure that you are speaking to a legitimate United Power employee, request that you call them back and dial United Power’s main Member Services number 303-637-1300.
- United Power does not go door-to-door to solicit products at members' homes. We will never visit in person to sell products or services claiming to save you energy. Vendors have been known to make claims to be representing United Power, so if you are approached by a solicitor at home, always ask for ID and call United Power if you are ever in doubt. United Power employees and official contractors working in the area can prove their identity and confirm the nature of their work, and they will never need access to the inside of your home. Occasionally, our Energy Experts may visit you at home, but these visits are always upon your request and by appointment only.

Budget Billing Balance your Budget with Budget Billing By averaging the seasonal ups and downs of your energy usage, Budget Billing helps you budget your monthly expenses and pay the same amount each month. Budget Billing is a 12 month plan consisting of 11 equal payments and a 12th, or final settlement payment, which is adjusted up or down depending on your actual usage. You are only billed for the electricity you use. Your Budget Billing monthly payment is estimated based on your past electric usage, so you must have at least six months of usage history with United Power before you are eligible for this program. Combine Budget Billing service with our other convenient payment options like Auto Pay and Paperless Billing. To sign up for Budget Billing, please contact a Member Services Representative via email or phone at 303-637-1300.
