Service Area Our Service Area United Power serves more than 115,000 meters across 900 square miles, broken into two noncontiguous areas - the plains northeast of Denver and two historic mountain canyons. The cooperative occupies the smallest geographic footprint of any Colorado cooperative, but serves the second-highest meter count and largest load. The service area has not always looked the way it does today. The cooperative extended electric service to the Golden Gate and Coal Creek Canyons in the 1940s and swapped the land where Denver International Airport sits with Xcel in exchange for the Carbon Valley area in the late 1980s.06/04/2019 - 01:56 PM
Service Installation Guide Service Installation Guide United Power’s Service Installation Guide Standard for Electric Installation and Use document is intended for members, developers, electricians, and customers to review and gain an understanding of United Power’s standard operating practice. This document contains the requirements and standards necessary for both our members and United Power to safely and efficiently provide reliable electric power and outstanding service to our members. This document speaks specifically to the installation, rules for providing service and quality of service issues. We have attempted to ensure that all the standards are in compliance with the National Electrical Code, The National Electrical Safety Code, and accepted industry practice. New, rewired, altered, or repaired wiring installations intended for connection to United Power’s distribution system shall comply with the standards of United Power, the National Electrical Code and any other codes or regulations in effect in the area served. United Power does not assume the function of inspecting members’ wiring for adequacy, safety or compliance with electrical codes. Such responsibility to coordinate the inspection remains with the member and inspectors. Questions concerning large and/or complicated electrical projects should be directed to a United Power Project Coordinator in advance of construction and/or purchase of equipment. This will reduce the risk of project delays or expensive changes during construction. Solar & Your Bill The Grid and Your Solar System By installing solar panels at your service location, you become an independent generator of electricity. Under a net metering agreement with United Power, you also benefit from grid access when you produce more power than you use. As a net metered customer, you can be a net-user, a net-generator, or you can be completely reliant on the United Power system for your power — all depending on the production of your system.
